While the fair featured free health presentations and demonstrations, the future of Social Security and Medicare took center stage. Congresswoman Nita Lowey, joined by several other officials, said it is her mission to keep those valuable retirement benefits in good working order.
“As ranking member on the House Appropriations Committee, I will continue working to make it easier for Americans and residents throughout the lower Hudson Valley to enjoy a secure retirement,” said Lowey, a Democrat from Rockland/Westchester.
The fourth annual event organized by state Sen. David Carlucci, a Rockland County Democrat, also included more than 100 local vendors of services geared toward senior citizens, along with yoga demonstrations, dance lessons and more. Some of the other presentations were a cardio-respiratory fitness information from the Nathan Kline Institute, and auditory and balance information from Hudson Valley Audiology.
Other government officials who attended the senior fair were Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee, Assemblyman Ken Zebrowski, Rockland County Executive Ed Day and Rockland Community College officials.
“We are here for a reason and that is because every elected official that is here understands one thing, and that is you are the people that built this county,” Day said.
Carlucci thanked all of the participants at the senior fair for bringing forth information that will help older Americans live better lives.
“Knowledge is power, and by keeping our seniors informed we are giving them the tools they need to lead healthy, comfortable and active lives,” Carlucci said.
